Desmodium is a type of tropical perennial vine plant, which grows up to 50 cm, it produces nice red flowers and green fruits. Native of America, Africa and Asia, this plant is widely used in Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Cameroon, Ghana, Guinea, Mali and many other countries, where it grows on meadows and forests; Desmodium is used as medicinal remedy in virtually every country where it grows. Very rich in active ingredients that enhance the therapeutic benefits, Desmodium contains alkaloids, saponins, fatty acids (linoleic, oleic, palmitic), amino acids and minerals (mainly phosphorus, magnesium, sulphur, potassium).

A plant so unique to generate the interest of a French doctor, Dr. Tubéry who discovered its properties in 1965 when he was in Cameroon working in a local hospital.

Manayupa or Desmodium is very popular in traditional plant medicine in Central and South America. Current Peruvian phytotherapy uses a tea leaf to purify the blood, detoxify the body from toxins and chemicals in the current living environment, cleanse the kidneys and urinary tract, and treat ovarian problems such as inflammation and irritation, vaginal discharge and bleeding.

There are 34 varieties of Desmodium. Only Desmodium molliculum (Manayupa) and
